VINTAGE MOSSBERG MODEL NO. 6, 4X SCOPE WITH NO. 6 MOUNT

This sale is for a vintage Mossberg Model No. 6 scope. This scope, that was introduced in 1935, is obviously one of the first designs marketed by Mossberg.
Mechanical condition of the scope is excellent, including the micrometer adjustments. The black finish on the tube is 99% complete, with several small scratches. The Bausch and Lomb lenses are clear and in excellent condition; the crosshairs are sharp and well defined. The mount also retains 99% of its blued finish.
The quality of this Mossberg scope is very likely equivalent to the Winchester and Stevens scopes of this period. Although they were designed mainly for rim fire cartridges, they were certainly suitable for small center fires. These were very popular, due to their competitive price and high quality and were used on most makes of small bore rifles at that time. The 3/4" scope tube design survived for many years with the availability of other mount systems, thereby making the bulky No. 6 and other early mounts obsolete.
